About the Venus Transit on june 6th, 2012
In 2012, june 6th, the planet Venus will move across the sun, which is called a Venus Transit. In many cultures this Venus Transit is considered a very special occasion. In one of the early Mayan books, the Dresden Codex, the beginning of the Great Cycle in August, 3114 BC is referred to as the "Birth of Venus". The Year 2012 is the end of this Great Cycle. Many American Indians from North and South America call 2012 the Year Zero. The Hopi Indians refer to this time of the coming of the Fifth World, and many prophecies have heralded this time of transition. Also in the ancient Vedic and Egyptian trandition Venus has a major role in the historical events on planet Earth. It's not surprising then that the second Venus transit of this decade falls in June, 2012, just six months from the end of the Mayan calendar in December 2012.

What about Venus?
The Mayan civilisation, along with the Aztecs and Incas, all place tremendous important on Venus cycles. The Mayans regard the cycles of rising and setting of Venus near the Sun (heliacal cycle) as a key timing trigger in the world. The Maya courts employed skilled astronomers, who could calculate the Venus cycle with extraordinary accuracy. There are six pages in the Dresden Codex devoted to the accurate calculation of the location of Venus.. The Venus cycle was especially important because the Maya believed it was associated with war and used it to divine appropriate times for coronations and war. Venus was also considered as a Sister Planet of Earth.

The Return of Quetzalcoatl
In Mayan Cosmology the planet Venus is also associated with Quetzalcoatl, the “creator” of Maya civilization. It is said that he transformed into Venus when he ascended from the Earth plane. Quetzalcoatl is said to embody the finest qualities of the head of the spiritual realm, Hunab Ku. As source, he holds fast to the more feminine aspects of culture as he metaphorically sits on his jaguar throne in Venus, awaiting return to Earth. He is in a way similar to Jesus in the Christian traditon, and the Buddha in the Eastern tradition. The essence of his teaching is that human existence must strive to transcend the world of forms that conceal ultimate reality. The means of advancing along this path to “spirituality” is purification.

New consciousness
Mayan prophecy states that the renewed world of new consciousness will be born on the occasion of the Venus Passage across the Sun of 6th June 2012. Venus, though traditionally associated with “war”, was studied as an omen for timing of conflict decisions and seems like a present day omen for our planet. The planetary focus on the transit that Venus will make again across the center of our sun in the ecliptic moments coming on June 5/6 of 2012 could very well awaken humankind to a renewal of hope and an opportunity to take this step toward the “resurrection” of Quetzalcoatl and the redemption and “purification” of mankind.

The birth of Venus
In Western society Venus is associated with beauty, femininety, love and sexuality. She is the Goddess incarnated. The most well-known image we have of her is the famous painting of Sandro Botticelli: La nascita di Venre, or the Birth of Venus. Strangely enough the original title of the painting was ‘Le Temps revient’, an esoteric description of the return of an age of enlightement, beauty and art. The Feminine was always seen as the muze, the source of inspiration for artists, philosofers and writers. In a world where patriarchal values have dominated more then two thousand years, the return of the feminine would be of immense value. When Venus is moving in front of the sun, it seems like the goddess of beauty is literally put into the spotlight.

Sacred places are the libraries of the earth; they contain valuable information about our evolution. Most of our religions and cultures have their roots a these places of power. Between june 6th, 2012 – the moment of the Venus Transit - and december 2012 -The end of the Maya calender- there is an opening in the framework of time. It is like a vulva of time that is opening up so the newborn child can come into this world.
